BOGEYS AND BOOTS DON FANCY FLIP FLOPS AT SECOND ANNUAL FUND-RAISING DINNER

A trip to a Hawaiian island? A night in a tropical paradise?

Guests who attended the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation’s second annual “Bogeys and Boots” dinner and auction fund-raiser were thrilled with the décor and the fancy flip flops, Hawaiian shirts and leis that formed the backdrop for the 2009 event’s “tropical” theme.

The temperature at the Northwest Forest Conference Facility, 12715 Telge Road, went up a notch when a fire knife dancer and hula dancers entertained the crowd, courtesy of the Aloha Spirit Company.

At the end of the festive evening, $12,800 had been raised for student scholarships.

“As the Cy-Fair school district’s population swells, the need for scholarship dollars increases,” said Linda Humphries, chairwoman of the “Bogeys & Boots” dinner and auction. “The Cy-Fair community generously supports the CFEF’s efforts in assisting young men and women in our community to continue their education after high school.”

When added to funds raised at the B.F. Adam Classic golf tournament (4-person Scramble) – scheduled for May 20, 2009 at BlackHorse Ranch Golf Club – the grand total is sure to make a difference in the scholarship support the CFEF is able to provide graduates of Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District.

CFEF launched the “Bogeys and Boot” event in 2008 to boost fund-raising efforts for student scholarships, and to complement the B. F. Adam Classic’s continued success with a separate dinner event that appeals to golfers and non-golfers alike.

“The community has taken hold of the event and made it a success for the second year in a row,” Humphries said.

“We want to thank the staff at the Northwest Forest Conference Facility,” she said. “We held the event in the Settlement House and the food and service was wonderful!”

Humphries said CFEF is also extremely grateful to Towne Lake, a Caldwell Community, the B. F. Adam Family, InterLinc Mortgage, Inc., and Station & Ayers Insurance Planning Services, LLC for sponsoring Bogeys and Boots this year.

“Our residents and businesses continue to provide strong proof of their dedication to Cy-Fair ISD graduates and their quest for higher education,” said Marie Holmes, CFEF executive director. “Even in challenging economic times, our community steps up to the plate and makes sure CFEF’s funding sources grow every year in order to keep pace with students’ needs.”

Jerry Ashmore and Chad Strban are co-chairmen of the 2009 B.F. Adam Classic Golf Tournament committee. Their goal was to make sure that the 20th annual fund-raising event brings in more funding than ever for student scholarships.

CFEF has been holding the B.F. Adam Classic for 20 years. It is known as one of the largest non-celebrity charity golf tournaments in Houston. B.F. (Bernard Fred) Adam was a lifelong Cy-Fair resident and a devoted school board member, serving 24 years on the board. B.F. Adam Elementary on Honey Grove Lane is named in his honor.
