FIRST ANNUAL “BOGEYS & BOOTS” BRINGS IN BONUS FUNDS FOR CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation’s first annual “Bogeys & Boots” dinner and auction on May 17 was a hit with 200-plus attendees who boogied, bid on auction items, and in the end, brought in almost $26,000 for student scholarships.

Combined with CFEF’s powerhouse B.F. Adam Classic golf tournament, which was held four days later at the BlackHorse Ranch Golf Club, Foundation supporters raised a grand total of $126,000 at the major fund-raising effort.

“The Foundation receives great support from the community, and that was illustrated by the time and effort that went in to making this first annual event a success,” said Marie Holmes, CFEF executive director. “We are always impressed with the community’s dedication to finding ways to help our students – our future leaders – advance and excel in their quest for higher education.”

Linda Humphries, chairwoman of the “Bogeys & Boots” dinner and auction, said the inaugural crowd loved the atmosphere at The Settlement House, Northwest Forest Conference Facility on Telge Road, and raved about the delicious food and excellent service.

“Everyone enjoyed a fun evening for a worthwhile cause,” Humphries said.

Bridgeland was the event underwriter, and Tin Hall sponsored the evening’s entertainment provide by Cheyenne band. Bronze table sponsors included Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union, Lone Star College – CyFair, Station & Ayers Insurance Planning Services, and Ridgeway’s.

“As always, our wonderful community was very supportive,” Humphries said.

Chris Cunico, co-chairman of the 2008 B.F. Adam Classic committee, said this year’s dynamic duo of events offered Foundation supporters a broader range of entertainment.

“Bogey's & Boots' turn-out was excellent,” Cunico said. “It was great to see the community out in full force for the first of what will now be an annual event. In the spirit of offering Foundation supporters an experience that is second to none, the BF Adam tournament sacrificed nothing.”

“The athletes in the community found themselves enjoying a gorgeous day on an immaculate course, only to end the day with a delicious steak dinner,” he said.  “This year's events offered something for all.”

CFEF has been holding the B.F. Adam Classic for 19 years. It is known as one of the largest non-celebrity charity golf tournaments in Houston. B.F. (Bernard Fred) Adam was a lifelong Cy-Fair resident and a devoted school board member, serving 24 years on the board. B.F. Adam Elementary on Honey Grove Lane is named in his honor.

Underwriters for the 2008 tournament were Towne Lake - A Caldwell Companies Community and The BF Adam Family. Platinum Level sponsors included Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP, Attorneys at Law and Bay Archicets. Lunch was donated by Willie’s Grill & Icehouse, and the steak dinner was provided by Carl's BBQBeverage and dessert sponsors included the Houston Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Silver Eagle Distributors and The Cypress-Fairbanks Rotary Club

Through the outstanding support of board members, volunteers, sponsors and the Cy-Fair community, the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation has provided college scholarships for Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District (CFISD) graduating seniors for more than 36 years, and Funds for Instructional Excellence Grants since 1998.

As CFISD grows, opening new high schools, and as the cost of education increases, the Foundation must continually expand its donor base to raise more funds. In the last decade, four new high schools have opened, and CFEF has awarded scholarships to students at each of these CFISD high schools.

The Foundation’s ultimate goal is to open educational pathways and opportunities for future leaders.
