HUMPHRIES’ ENERGY SPARKS CY-FAIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION’S FUND-RAISING EFFORTS

Look up the words “inspiration,” “dedication” and “motivation” in the dictionary and you may find a photo of Linda Humphries, a strong community leader and member of the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation’s board of directors.

The past 32 years of Humphries’ busy life have been dedicated to the Cy-Fair community. She has worked in the area for 32 years, lived in the area for 30 years and spent most of that time giving back through business-, educational- and community-focused endeavors.

Humphries has contributed her energy and expertise to the Foundation’s efforts by serving on the board of directors for 12 years. She has served several terms on the board’s Executive Committee and has also served as Treasurer of the Foundation .

“CFEF’s most important role in the community is to raise funds for college scholarships and to continue to raise awareness of the Foundation’s mission,” said Humphries.  “Many businesses and individuals in our community are still not aware of the Foundation and our mission.  I am excited about the endowment program we have just started and believe the long term future of the Foundation will be greatly impacted as we gain endowment partners. “

“Our biggest challenge is to introduce and communicate who we are and our mission/purpose to others in the Cy-Fair community,” she said.

Humphries contributes to that effort by helping to organize two of CFEF’s major fund- raisers each year: the “Bogeys and Boots” dinner and auction, which kicked off in 2008 as part of the powerhouse B.F. Adam Classic Golf Tournament in May; and the “Salute to the Stars” gala in October.

Humphries served as chairperson for the first annual “Bogeys and Boots” dinner and auction, which turned out to be a perfect complement to the B.F. Adam Classic golf tournament in May. The inaugural event was a hit with 200-plus attendees and raised an additional $26,000 to bring the grand total of funds raised to $126,000.

Since 2004, Humphries has helped lead the charge in organizing the foundation’s fun-filled, star-studded “Salute to the Stars” fund-raiser as co-chair of the event’s fund-raising committee. The fund-raiser has attracted over $800,00 in funds for Instructional Excellence Grants for Cy-Fair ISD teachers, and scholarships for Cy-Fair ISD student graduates.

Humphries is charged with recruiting volunteers and sponsors for the annual gala. She said the goal is to raise funding in the six-figure range each year so that CFEF can insure a solid and growing source of grant and scholarship funding for Cy-Fair ISD students and teachers.

Well-respected in the Cy-Fair banking community, Humphries launched her career with Sterling Bank, formerly known as Jersey Village Bank, in 1973 and remained with the company for 31 years.  After retirement, she was a business consultant and now is Vice President of the West Belt branch of Allegiance Bank Texas, a new bank which opened in the Cy-Fair area in 2007.

She and her husband of 39 years, Donnie Humphries, moved to Cy-Fair in 1979.

“I have three grown children who received an excellent education in Cy-Fair ISD,” she said.  “I have an Aggie, a Longhorn, and two of my children have attended Lone Star College - CyFair.”

Her favorite pastimes are reading, and not surprisingly, volunteering in the community.

“The Cy-Fair community is a great place to raise a family not only because of the excellent education our school district and Lone Star College - Cy Fair provides but also because many of the  individuals and businesses in our community share the same values toward education and a commitment to impact the quality of life in our community,” Humphries said.

“Being involved in the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation for so many years has been a very rewarding experience and has also provided me the opportunity to serve my community  and share the message that together we really can impact the quality of life in our community and improve access to college for students who have a significant financial need,” she said.
