An important part of our mission is to increase access to higher education for graduates of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD (CFISD) by awarding scholarships. Through our scholarships, deserving students have the opportunity to pursue their dreams in college and beyond. In this blog, we will provide a brief background on how we award scholarships. From there, we will announce the total amount of scholarships we will be awarding this year.
Since our inception, we have awarded more than $7.5 million in scholarships to graduates of CFISD. In a particular year, we may award as many as five graduates from each high school in our district. While there are several different types of scholarships that we offer, the total amount and number of scholarships awarded each year are dependent on many factors including financial support from our community. Our major fundraising events of the year, Salute to the Stars, the Houston Methodist Cy-Hoops Invitational, Salute to Our Heroes, the B.F. Adam Golf Classic, and other fundraising initiatives throughout the year provide us with a foundation to deliver upon our mission.
We are proud to announce that we will award more than $500,000 in scholarships this year! Winners will be announced in May at each high school’s award ceremony. The students that have been awarded scholarships will then participate in our Scholarship Reception on August 7th, 2018. We cannot thank our donors and business partners enough for their generosity in helping us raise such a significant amount of money for scholarships this year to benefit our youth. These scholarships will have a lasting impact on each and every student who has been selected. Our success stories give you just a small taste of how our scholarships have transformed lives. Deena Morgan, Mindy Harper, Jeremy Crow, and Jason Ludeke have been gracious enough to allow us to tell their stories on our website.
Describing the feeling that students experience when they find out that they have been awarded a scholarship is difficult to put into words. We are looking forward to these special moments when the awards ceremonies take place next month. Until then, we will leave you with a testimonial that puts into perspective the impact that scholarships have in CFISD. Joseph Balita, a graduate of Cypress Creek in 2004, stated, “I hope your good deeds will continue and that you will always be dedicated to helping deserving students become productive members of our community.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
